THE LIST: How to Spend 420 on a Saturday

Prior to 2024, the last time April 20th fell on a Saturday was 2013, the year before cannabis became recreational in Colorado. During that 420, CCC Culture spent it at Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom with performances from Method Man and Redman in what became an annual concert tradition for the duo. After 2024, the next 420 falling on a Saturday will be in 2030, so it's time to appreciate this rare occurrence in the cannabis community, and explore some options that will be happening in the Greater Denver Area.

Remember that episode of Hey Arnold called "The List"? To summarize, the neighborhood kids collaborate to create the perfect Saturday, listing activities like video games and pizza. We're doing that same premise, but adult 420 Colorado style, as recommended by CCC Culture. The following events will be shared in chronological order to mimic a day's worth of events.

Part 1: Wake N' Bake (Starting the Day Out, 7am-10am)

• Roll up a strain that gets your juices flowing and head over to Breakfast on Broadway for a proper Saturday morning breakfast. My personal recommendation is their breakfast burrito, but the Brioche French Toast is another great option if you're craving something sweet.

• Following breakfast, I'd head over to Ruby Hill Park, which is about 10 minutes from Breakfast on Broadway for a scenic smoke session that overlooks most of the city.

Part 2: The Rebake (Mid Morning to Mid Afternoon, 10am - 4pm)

• If you're a sports fan, and especially if you're a Denver Nuggets fan, the NBA playoffs begin on 420. What better way to celebrate the defending champions than with some actual "Denver Nuggets"? There will be a quadruple header beginning at 10am Mountain time, allowing for a great opportunity to invite fellow sports fan friends over for a relaxing smoke session in the comfort of your own home. If you don't have access to the games, Basketball Social House is a great option for public viewing. Cheba Hut also has annual 420 food specials that would be a great delivery or takeout option during this time.

Part 3: Half Baked (Late Afternoon to Early Evening, 4pm - 9pm)

• This time slot has lots of options for the greater Denver area, but I've gathered a couple go-to options. First, I'd consider heading up to 420 on the Rocks, a cannabis-themed hip-hop concert at Denver's notoriously great concert venue, Red Rock Amphitheater. Headliners include Wiz Khalifa and Flatbush Zombies. Secondly, a more centralized option would be Denver's famous Mile High 420 Festival at Civic Center Park. This year's headliner is Gucci Mane, and tickets are completely free. Lastly, a great dinner option for this time is The Yard House, which has several locations around Denver. My personal favorite is the Nashville Hot Chicken with sweet potato pancakes.

• Once again, for the Denver sports fans, you can go see the Nuggets vs. Lakers live at 8pm. This will likely be the Nuggets first win en route to an attempt at a repeat championship.

Part 4: Roasted (Late Night, 9pm - Midnight)

• DJ Quik at Cervantes would be my go-to option for late night 420 events in Denver for 2024. DJ Quik is easily a top 2 producer in the history of West Coast hip-hop (along with Dr. Dre), and one of the greatest artists the genre has seen overall. He has smoke-themed jams such as Bombudd and Bombudd II that will serve as the perfect soundtrack to a smoke-filled ambience at Cervantes.

• For a late night snack, some go-to spots may include The Marquee, Redeemer Pizza, or run it back to Cheba Hut until 2am at multiple locations as well.

Conclusion: 420 in Colorado always tends to be a festive time, and there's no perfect way to plan your celebration. In fact, at the conclusion of the Hey Arnold episode referenced earlier, the kids figure out that the best way to spend their time is being spontaneous. Whether you create a full itinerary, or fly by the seat of your pants, make sure to be safe and responsible throughout your celebration.
