Aroma (in jar and ground up): From the jar, this strain has one of the most notable and distinct aromas I’ve encountered, as it has strong characteristics of tropical fruit with a citrus twist. It’s like sweet mangoes and limes. Largely remains the same upon grinding.
Taste: Similar to the aroma, flavor reminds me of tropical fruit but with a pastry-like flair. I’d be inclined to believe this strain contains the terpene valencene, known for sweet citrus flavor.
How it Smokes (smooth, harsh etc.): Smooth
Medical or Recreational: Recreational
THC percentage: 25
Effects: Moderate sedation, thinking becomes clouded, lots of brain lock. Sets an even-keeled mood.
Overall: Flavor Crystals marks my first experience with any product from Boulder Built. Maikoh Holistics is the only spot I’ve personally encountered their flower, but it came highly recommended from the budtenders. I loved the name, but once they popped the jar, I was sure I’d appreciate the smoke as well. The first time that profile hit my nose, I knew I hadn’t quite smelt anything like it. I felt the same way when smoking/tasting as well.
Smoking on flavor crystals was not the experience I expected, as most citrus strains/crosses I try are uplifting and produce inspired thought. This cut made it difficult for me to think creatively or be productive, so I had my best experience with this strain just sitting back watching entertainment, without a critical thought in the world.
All in all, I’d certainly come back to this strain again for the late afternoon/evening or weekend rotation when I’m streaming a favorite show, kicking back trying to relax. One critique I have about the Boulder Built brand is their lack of a digital presence. I’d either like to see them have a website with relevant strain/distribution information, or at least more activity on social media to get the word out, as their flower deserves to be more widely recognized from my personal experience.
