Gastro Pop By Viola

A Gastro Pop cannabis bud grown by Viola, with frosty trichomes and green, orange hues on a plain white background.

Strain: Gastro Pop

How it’s marketed: Sativa

Genetics: Apples & Bananas x Grape Gasoline

Aroma (in jar and ground up): From the jar it’s mostly fruity and herbal. Upon grinding, the sweetness explodes with the fruitiness.

Taste: Overall fruity essence with a savory counterbalance at times.

How it Smokes (smooth, harsh etc.): Moderate

Medical or Recreational: Medical

THC percentage: 26.99

Effects: Energy and motivation. This is the type of high that sparks a lot of inspiration. Even late at night, I found this strain rejuvenating. Subtly relaxing. Uplifting.

Overall: The first time I tried Viola’s flower recently, they made a strong impression with their cut of GMOChi. The same goes for this batch of Gastro Pop. Although these strains couldn’t be more different, Viola executed both at a high level, and they’d be complementary pieces in a cannabis medicine cabinet. Former NBA player, and CEO of Viola, Al Harrington, named the company after his mother, who suffered from Glaucoma until her introduction to cannabis. With that in mind, the company has led with a medicine-first approach when it comes to cultivation.

I’ve reviewed Apples & Bananas and Grape Gasoline in the past, and generally liked both strains, so I expected to like this cross. The flavor from the Apples and Bananas lineage comes through the most, while the Grape Gas helps layer the fruity profile while providing the savory counterbalance. The effects offer rare energy-building attributes that can help elevate productivity, even in my experiences when consuming later into the night. Gastro Pop easily makes my rotation as a go-to pick-me-up option, or something to consume during the work day. Another great job by Colorado’s Viola team.
