Strain: Mandarine Cakes
How it’s marketed: Sativa
Genetics: Forum Cut Cookies x Mandarin Sunset
Aroma (in jar and ground up): From the jar, it’s musty and earthy, and then gets much more pungent after grinding.
Taste: Surprisingly, this batch didn’t give me much on the sweet or citrus side, but I found it mostly gassy and savory.
How it Smokes (smooth, harsh etc.): Smooth
Medical or Recreational: Recreational
THC percentage: 26
Effects: Relaxed with moderate sedation on most occasions. Had it before bed and it put me out pretty quickly. During the day, I felt some cerebral effects early into the high, being zoned out and slightly exuberant.
Overall: I’ve been a longtime fan of Indico for their consistency and unique offerings. It’s great to see their relatively new dispensary thriving in Colorado Springs. In a future review, I’ll speak more about my first visit, but I happened to grab this batch of Mandarine Cakes in Denver.
Although I liked this strain, and found the effects useful for a laid-back day or a deeply relaxing evening, there was a disconnect on the flavor profile from my experience. It was solid, but I’d like to try another batch to see if it nails that expected balance of sweet orange in which mandarine crosses are known for. I saw one another online resource reporting those exact flavors from Indico’s version, so it’s very possible this batch just happened to lean more heavily on the diesel side of things. As long as you’re open to a potentially more gassy version of mandarine cakes, this is worth a try.
