Melon Pop By Pruf Cultivar (Portland, Oregon)

Close-up of a melon pop cannabis bud with green, purple, and orange hues on a plain white background. The texture is dense and layered.

Strain: Melon Pop

How it’s marketed: Hybrid

Genetics: Forbidden Fruit x Watermelon Zkittlez

Aroma (in jar and ground up): Super fruity out the jar, reminiscent of melon-flavored candy. m

Taste: Watermelon airheads candy is the most apt comparison. Has stretches of dough-like flavor.

How it Smokes (smooth, harsh etc.): Smooth

Medical or Recreational: Recreational

THC percentage: 33.29

Effects: Relaxing in every scenario, but it’s a versatile strain that can be consumed in the day for a moderate laid back wave, or at night for a final knockout punch.

Overall: Being my 3rd time visiting Portland, Oregon, I was relatively familiar with the local cannabis scene. I had successful pickups that I enjoyed previously, but this Melon Pop from Pruf Cultivar is the best, most notable cut I’ve gotten in the state of Oregon. The distinct watermelon flavor is a rarity, but looking at their website, it seems their team is hyper-focused on innovation, and experimenting with the intersection of psychoactive effects, therapeutic effects and terpene profiles. They describe their core values as follows:

In order to help consumers better understand this plant and the way their bodies interact with it, we built our menu with a range of preferences, experiences and chemistry in mind. Your curiosity is rewarded by discovery—the discovery of ideal effects; affects you never knew possible; and an eye-opening shift in how you look at the way cannabis can improve day-to-day life.

In addition, Pruf claims to have unique environments for all of their cultivars to maximize the potential of each plant. Based on my experience, these claims seems to be substantiated, and the brand was cited as a favorite of the local budtenders. The effects were diverse, which made it hard to consume for specific use cases, but at the same time, this is ultra convenient if you can only hold one strain at a time. If I find myself in Portland again anytime soon, I’ll be sure to seek some Melon Pop for the out of town rotation.
