Strain: Purple AK-47
How it’s marketed: Indica
Genetics: Grandaddy Purple x AK-47
Aroma (in jar and ground up): From the jar it leans into the GDP profile with smells of artificial/candy grape. Reminds me of grape pixie stix. Remains consistent after grinding.Â
Taste: Tastes like grape candy, mostly sweet, not much counterbalance, which is a bit surprising with AK-47 in the mix.Â
How it Smokes (smooth, harsh etc.): Smooth
Medical or Recreational: Recreational
THC percentage: 28.6
Effects: AK-47 comes alive in the effects, as it quickly set in and felt heavy on every occasion. Even during an earlier morning session, I found myself yawning just minutes after taking a few hits before settling into a chair to watch college basketball. Late at night it was a quick knockout. Puts the mind at ease as well.Â
Overall: Rare Dankness, established in 2009, is a renowned breeder with international ties in multiple countries. In an article I found in 2016, Rare Dankness specified that RD Industries was opened to specifically operate in Colorado, but in 2018, RD Industries further expanded internationally as well. In Colorado, I’ve found their products available for medical and recreational sales, and I snagged this batch of Purple AK recreationally from Starbuds during a birthday special.Â
This is one of those times I took a look at Leafy’s description of this same strain, and found it laughable for its lack of accuracy in my experience with this batch of Purple AK-47. It was described as an even, balanced hybrid with a rush of mental energy. That couldn’t have been farther from the truth in my opinion. There wasn’t much balance in this cut from Rare Dankness, but instead it feels much more heavy and body leaning with carefree, ease of thinking, but not any mental stimulation. I even found writing this review difficult while smoking Purple AK. But, that’s why this platform exists, to highlight specific cuts and phenotypes with greater detail.
Flavor took me back to 2009 with its strong presence of GDP properties, and the effects were top notch for anyone seeking something to put them down for the count, or completely at ease with physical and mental relief. I’m undoubtedly putting the Rare Dankness cut of Purple AK-47 in the rotation when I find it on the medical side for a much friendlier cost. Excellent job from the team at RD Industries in Colorado, will be trying more offerings soon.
