How it’s marketed: Indica
Genetics: Rainbow Belts x Apple Mintz (bred by Clearwater Genetics)
Aroma (in jar and ground up): Faint fruitiness and general sweetness from the bag. Upon grinding there’s the presence of a subdued spearmint aroma.
Taste: Piney and a touch fruity. Hints of mint from the lineage.
How it Smokes (smooth, harsh etc.): Mostly smooth on the lungs, but it had a noticeably dark burn at times.
Medical or Recreational: Recreational
THC percentage: 25.9
Effects: Relaxation, mild sedation, even-keeled. Laid back but relatively high alertness remains.
Overall: Hi-Fuel quickly gained notoriety in the Colorado cannabis space earlier in 2023 as a new, pre-packaged budget option for recreational shoppers. Offering cultivars such as Lemon Rose, White Truffle, and Blowpops, their unique assortment of genetics sounded promising and refreshing at an affordable price. I co-host a weekly smoke session podcast and myself along with my 2 co-hosts decided to acquire the different strain offerings on their initial release.
After discussing our pickups, the option that yielded the least amount of issues among consumers was the Rainbow Fruit Mintz that I got. My batch of Rainbow Fruit Mintz was cured exceptionally well, but that didn’t seem to always be the case for the other pickups I personally witnessed. Some of the stains were too undercured, to the point the stems of the flower were pliable/bendable. In that same vein, some offerings yielded mold from being too moist in the packaging.
In a vacuum, without consideration to purchases/experiences I witnessed from others, I’d put the Rainbow Fruit Mintz on the bubble - close to making the rotation, but not quite special enough to readily return to it. The flavor and effects were both very solid, but not something I’d consider extraordinary. Given the price point, I think it’s a fair-market product, but needs to improve consistency and quality control for each pre-pack that hits the market for me to build confidence in recommending it to others. Once I see some sustained quality control practices, I’ll be excited to try more offerings from Hi-Fuel. Very solid cultivation effort from the team at Hi-Fuel, and an even more noble effort for focusing on unique offerings at an accessible price.
